Our Story
Pentonic® was founded in 1990 by John Smith, a stationery lover and fountain pen enthusiast. As a child, John treasured his collection of pens and enjoyed practicing his handwriting. He also appreciated the artistry and craftsmanship that went into making fine writing instruments.
As an adult, John worked in the stationery industry and was disappointed by the lack of high-quality affordable pens. At the time, most inexpensive pens were flimsy and prone to skipping, leaking, and smearing. The only pens that offered a superior writing experience were expensive fountain pens far out of reach for the average consumer.
John aimed to change that by launching Pentonic®. His vision was to make exceptional writing instruments accessible to everyone. The company began by producing ballpoint and rollerball pens made from premium materials. They focused on quality control and craftsmanship, establishing themselves as makers of pens that wrote smoothly and reliably.
Over the years, Pentonic® has expanded into manufacturing gel pens, brush pens, markers, mechanical pencils, and more. We’ve built partnerships with stationery retailers across the globe to distribute our products worldwide. Our Facility
Pentonic® pens are designed, manufactured, and shipped from our state-of-the-art facility located in Los Angeles, California. Our 50,000 square foot building houses our corporate offices, research labs, manufacturing operations, and distribution center.
Our research team tirelessly develops new pen technologies aimed at improving writing performance. Our innovative efforts over the years have led to advancements like quick-drying gel ink, hybrid ballpoint-rollerball tips, and ergonomic grips.
In our manufacturing plant, we assemble pens and formulate ink in-house to rigorous specifications. We blend high-quality dyes and pigments to create our signature, long-lasting ink colors. Our production lines employ advanced techniques to produce precision parts for each pen component.
